2010 Kansas Preservation Conference: Preservation at the Crossroads of America
June 5, 2010EVENT: Russell County Wildflower Tour
DATE: Saturday, Jun 5th, 2010 @ 9am-12pm
LOCATION: Russell County; Dorrance, KS
This spring the BCMSHR WRAPS, in conjunction with Dubuque Land and Cattle Co., will host a wildflower tour at Dubuque Land and Cattle located in SE Russell County. Dubuque is home to hundreds of native wildflowers and grasses and encompasses over 1600 acres of rangeland, CRP, and cropland. The topography of the area is made of gently rolling hills making biodiversity of plants exceptional for a wildflower tour.
This tour will provide the public with a chance to view the native flora of the area. It is great way to learn about the history of the landscape, the benefits of native plants, their relationship to man both past and present and also provides a chance to learn which wildflowers can be used in a home landscape; reducing both water consumption and maintenance costs.
Local experts will guide and identify all wildflowers and grasses present on the landscape. The event is come and go from 9 am to noon with drinks provided. There will be handouts on wildflowers, free native wildflower seed to take home, and other literature on plants! The event will take place rain or shine.
