About Us

For years,  those of us who own private properties in Kansas that are listed on the historic registers have wanted a virtual meeting place. The urgent need for this site became evident when proposed legislation, HB 2083, was being heard by the Kansas House of Representative's Committee on Local Government. The bill, if passed, would eliminate the historic environs review.  Obviously, this bill could have a major affect on our properties, yet many of us were not notified of the hearing. We didn't even know the bill existed. Other issues, such as range burning and tips for fire prevention became topical, so we took the leap and started this site. We hope KansasofOlde.com is useful in keeping eachother better informed.

More information on HB2083 is on the home page under "ALERT" and on the "Background on issues" and "News and notifications" pages. To get to those pages, click the buttons on the left.

We look forward to putting this issue to rest and getting back to collaborating on historic preservation and restoration of our properties. The site is evolving and will grow to be even more useful with your help.

Kudos for Kansas of Olde

As a former journalism teacher and "volunteer" editor of three newsletters, I applaud your site. It's even more impressive given how quickly you've gotten it up and running. It looks great, offers interesting facts and provides a fantastic service. Thanks for your efforts in the environs law battle and for taking it such a wonderful step further in setting up this site.

I'm delighted to see a site like KansasofOlde for those of us who have made the commitment to restoring and preserving the historic buildings in our state.

Finally! Great to see an advocacy group for historic preservation. The hour is growing late…. with dozens of new NHA's in place across the nation… our (legislators) have allowed funding to dry up …The nation needs an effective lobbying force, on behalf of preservation, and NOW.
